Hello! I’m Rhi Spicer. I love rowing for so many reasons, but I will try to narrow it down to my top 3. First off, I love the thrill of competition and the satisfaction felt after making it through hard pieces, and being able to look back and know that no matter the outcome, I gave that piece everything I could. I love the discipline and work ethic that rowing has instilled in me–I don’t know very many people my age that would dedicate more than 12 hours a week of their time to something as hard as rowing. Most of all, I love my team, and the lifelong connections that I’ve made with many of them while bonding over something we love.
I am a very good team player, but I also excel at being a leader when the opportunity arises. As a student, I value hard work and balance, meaning that I put in the effort that I want to see returned to me grade wise, but I also make sure to balance my life at school with programs that I enjoy like the Fire Academy and Photography Club. As an athlete, I value pushing myself past my limits, listening to my body, and respect for myself, my sport, and my teammates. My goals as a rower are to compete in college at the highest level because competition is one of the things that motivates me to be the best athlete that I can be. I would also love to end up at a school near the coast, with rigorous, fulfilling academics and a lively student culture.
