2022 Season Opene...Personal Statement
My name is Riley "Lee" McElligott and I have been involved in rowing for 4 years. I was first drawn to the sport because I enjoy being part of a close-knit team and working in sync to overcome obstacles. I was surprised by how well our team worked together when I was a rower in my novice year, so I came back as a coxswain for the Varsity season. This fall, I was invited to cox a head race for Coastal Virginia Community Rowing, and I loved it so much, I joined the club for the fall season. Through coxing, I have learned the power of confidence to inspire the rowers to work their hardest, the importance of good leadership on and off the water, and how collaboration and listening to my teammates helps me to become a better coxswain.
