Personal Statement
I began my soccer career at the age of 3. I have loved the game of soccer since my father came back from Brazil with a Brazilian soccer uniform and ball for me. I began competitive play at the age of 9. When that team dissolved my age group no longer had a competitive team so I tried out for an older team. I made that team with the understanding that I wouldn't get much playing time but I became a starter by the end of the season through much hard work. I made the soccer team for my middle school in the 6th grade and then played some with Varsity my 7th grade year. Soccer had always been made easy for me but then in the middle of my 8th grade year my father accepted a position for a new church in Mt. Olive, AL.
Upon moving, I had to essentially start over academically as well as athletically. I was in a Private Christian School in NC and was put into Public School here in AL. I faced many challenges because I had to start over socially, academically and athletically because no one knew me. I had to find a new club team to play with and start from scratch in a new school system where no one knew how I played. When I went to the club tryouts the top teams were essentially already established which left me playing at a lower level that I wasn't used to. I decided at that point that I was going to take every opportunity given to show my skill level and ability to be a DI player. Last year, my club team won our conference and I led our team to the Alabama State Cup Championship by scoring in every game during that tournament. We took the GOLD!! I have since worked my way up to a starting position on the DI BUSA 01 Premier team.
While this journey hasn't been easy and I certainly wouldn't have chosen to move; I do believe this has made me a better person and a better soccer player. I am looking forward to my junior year as I am preparing for college both academically and athletically. I do feel I am better prepared for the challenges ahead playing at the collegiate level and I believe I have much to offer where I will continue my studies and athletic career.
