Decision-making, knowing where to be, knowing where to move, and all around knowledge of the game equal soccer IQ. I have spent hours on and off the field perfecting my soccer IQ, including tactical knowledge, patterns of play, anticipation of events before they happen, pressure, angle and distance and change of speed. If dedicated, tenacious and intellectual is what you are looking for in a player then I am your student-athlete. My name is Caroline Metz and I have been playing club soccer for 9 years. I don’t remember a time in my life that soccer was not a part of it. I know there are many qualified and talented athletes, however what makes me unique is not only my dedication to the sport but also to my academics, family and the community. I have “juggled” my rigorous academic schedule along with my demanding athletic schedule from a very young age. Last year prior to the pandemic taking hold of our country, I attended high school classes until 2 pm then ran cross-country from 3-5 pm and then ran over to my soccer team practices from 7-9 pm. I did all of this while maintaining a 4.0 gpa taking rigorous classes. I also continued to participate in community outreach by presenting a proposal to the city board of directors to establish a domestic and teen abuse awareness day, started my own Education Nation online tutoring forum for those students needing extra help during the pandemic, and also did an internship at the Keck Graduate Institute involving drug-repurposing. I am interested in pursuing a STEM degree and have immersed myself in a curriculum heavy in math and science.
My love for soccer has molded me into the person I am today. I have learned teamwork, leadership and dedication over the years. This has allowed me to work with my community and peers. I currently lead an Honor Cabinet at my school in which I collaborate with others to provide a moral foundation for my peers. Soccer has provided me with insight and perspective not only on the field but off the field as well. I hope to share these characteristics at my future collegiate home.
