Marina Downing '2...Personal Statement
As an athlete, I am known for my speed, power, physicality and my ability to beat most any player down the line so I can either take a shot or cross.
While soccer is my first love, I also race track. I am currently running on the varsity track team as a freshman at my high school and last summer, I qualified for regional junior nationals in the 100m, 200m, and the 4 x 100m relay.
As a teammate, I bring a positive attitude to every practice and game and I am known for always having a smile and encouraging others on and off the field. There is something I just love about being on a team!
As a student, I am comfortable sharing that I am dyslexic. What this means is I have to work extra hard on a daily basis. Even though I have this challenge, I am still able to keep my grades strong while playing at the high level of DA Soccer. My attitude and work ethic and my physicality make me who I am!

- ActivitiesVolunteer/Buddy for the LA Galaxy San Diego Club Champions League which is a no-cost soccer program for kids from 2-18 years old that have medical or physical disabilities. I am currently paired with a 16-year-old boy who is autistic. He can't speak but through his iPad. But, I found out he knows some American Sign Language and I am in my second year of ASL so I am looking forward to seeing if I can be helpful in communication with him when we do the training program which is designed to encourage him and others to learn and grow as soccer players, all while having fun and getting exercise.
