Personal Statement
Not only am I dedicated to improving my game, I am committed to receiving an education and participating in activities that shape my character. The past 2 summers I volunteered at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital in the Spinal Cord Injury unit for physical therapy and research. I witnessed so many men with emotional stories about their service for our country. It was a truly amazing experience helping people with such traumatic injuries who continued to pursue their painful physical therapy with an open mind and happy spirit. It warmed my heart to have conversations with men who gave me such great advice. Dave, an older man who was paralyzed from the hips down, would come into physical therapy and smile when he saw me. He once told me "Emma don't let anyone stop you from doing what you love, and never give up even when things get hard". As I explore the options of pursuing a career in nursing, furthering my education, and continuing my passion for soccer, I think of those wise words and I tirelessly work to achieve my goals for the future.
