I started playing soccer in first grade and immediately fell in love with it, and after 12 years, I still love it. Throughout my four years playing varsity soccer, I have played many different positions such as: goalie, striker, full back wing and defensive mid. My most recent and favorite position is defensive mid (Stopper), because I have a strong kick and can use either foot to send the ball forward. I’m finishing my 4th year on the high school varsity team as a team Captain, while doing this, I have worked hard to improve the accuracy of my long kicks, and being able to use either foot to trap and pass the ball. The reason that I want to continue playing soccer in college is because I love the sport, and want to continue improving my skills.
As a Captain of my soccer team, I bring a positive attitude onto the field everyday. I like to lead by example and I always put my team member’s needs above my own. Soccer has taught me to overcome obstacles, stay positive and not give up when things get tough. I have learned that hard work and dedication towards soccer has improved my skills, and that it is a great way to overcome stereotypes about girls. For example, as an exchange student in Brazil, I noticed that only the boys at my school played soccer. After a short time of being the only girl to play with the boys, I was able to encourage some of the other girls to join me. By the time I left, there were several girls that played with us everyday.
At school I always give my studies 100% and have a great GPA with a heavy academic schedule. I am also the president of my local 4-H chapter and help my community out any way I can.
I want to go to college to boost my intelligence and help me further my life in the career field of Ag-Business, or Environmental Science. I want to finish my last years of school playing the sport I love. With college, I am open to more experiences and trying new things I haven’t had the opportunity to try, especially with living in a rural area.
