Personal Statement
I come from a very big family on both sides. My dad's side of the family is Filipino and I have 24 cousins. My mom's side of the family is Jewish and I have 10 cousins. I frequently get together with both sides of my family to celebrate holidays and spend time together. I also have many aunts and uncles whom I look up to and have learned from. All of the love and support that I have received from them has had a huge influence on who I am.
Besides having a huge family, something else that makes me unique is my independence and my ability to manage and balance my time. I started working my freshman year and since then I have had two jobs (cashier and bagger) as well as an internship at an architecture firm. In addition, I have been taking classes at my local community college (Cabrillo). I have taken an online photography class, an online English class, and I am currently enrolled in a Chemistry lab and lecture.
I decided to solely focus on soccer in ninth grade after having played soccer, softball, volleyball and track. At that time I also switched to a more competitive club team. I enjoy the higher level of play and the more focused (but fun) practices that I didn't really get from my previous club team. I also value all of my teammates work ethic. What I personally love about soccer is the speed and physicality of the game.
In terms of my college experience I am mostly looking forward to taking classes that are practical and engaging. Although I have done well in school, I haven't always enjoyed all my classes, so I am looking forward to having more choice in what I choose to study. In terms of soccer, I want to improve as a player and develop a strong bond with a team that can serve as my family away from home.
