Personal Statement
I am Emily Estrada and I play for the Mustang SC 05G ECNL team coached by Austin Risenhoover. I go to Saint Mary’s High School in Stockton, California and am part of the class of 2023.
I started playing soccer when I was just 3 years old and instantly grew a strong connection with the sport. I have not stopped playing since! As a student athlete, I believe we all have our ups and downs. When I am feeling down and need an outlet, soccer is what brings me up and pulls me back to the surface. It is the one thing that continues to push me harder and inspires me to be the best version of myself.
I usually play outside back and winger. I am an aggressive defender that likes to attack. I am looking for a soccer program that reflects my possession style of play. My other soccer strengths include versatility ( I can play other positions as needed by my coach/team), coachability ( I love to learn and improve my soccer game/skills all the time), and resilience ( I recover quickly from mistakes and love winning back second balls.) One of my proudest soccer moments was being invited to the ODP National Training Camp.
I am also a band kid, and have been playing the flute for 7 years! In 2019, I made my County’s Honor Band and this past March, I received the “Best Performer of the Symphonic Band” award. I also made the California Scholarship Federation and have maintained above a 4.0 GPA for the first 2 years of high school. Why I am especially proud is that I was able to do all this while also commuting an hour each way to get to soccer practice and home. I plan to major in business and to pursue a career in forensic accounting.
I am looking for a university with both a strong soccer program as well as a high-achieving academic program, married together by a team culture of family.
