My name is Lizbeth Rojas, since I first can remember my father had signed me up in a soccer team. My first few days of practice I felt a bit intimidated because I was the only girl in the team. I'd played with that same team and being the only girl was a bit hard because I was put down a lot by it. Until I was entered middle school, I stopped playing, only because my parents didn't allow me to join a team without them there, which I understood, however it didn't stop me from playing soccer with the boys during recess or lunch. When 8th grade came along I had to switch schools and being new to a school and being able to join a sport is hard. Then I meet an amazing friend, she had convinced me to join and I did. I was put in a position I wasn't used to playing in, but she believed in me and with help assistance I was able to score a goal. I was able to overcome all the put downs I received from people and being able to put my fears asides to be able to accomplish a goal.
I attended a new school named University Prep Value High School, it is a school in which I am blessed to be a part of a start the school and being able to be the first graduating class. When they first started a co-ed soccer team and again I was the only girl there. It felt a little different, however when it came to picking teams I was constantly picked last only because they didn't believe a girl should be able to play with males because we are "fragile". As time passed I kept playing with this amazing team we got along more and they all managed to treat me no different. When sophomore year came, I was blessed with the opportunity to begin the girls soccer team from University Prep Value High School and with much effort I was elected as their team captain. For the next two years after that, I was proud to be able to lead the team into success, and although we didn't always win, I was always proud of the girls in the team because we grew as a team and we made awesome memories which will never be replaced. At times it was hard, I thought that when I started working I would have to quit playing soccer, but I didn't let it, I convinced my dad that I was able to manage school, soccer, and work and as if right now I believe I am still doing a good job of it. My grades never slipped anything lower than a C, or a G.P.A. lower than a 3.0.
Although the soccer season is over, at the moment I am playing in an outside team but I also hope to be able to play in college.
