Personal Statement
My name is Morgan Gray and I am I am a Junior at Holy Family High School in Broomfield Colorado, playing U17 club for FC Boulder in Boulder Colorado. I have a strong desire to play college soccer to achieve my academic goals while continuing to compete at the highest level that I can in the sport that I have loved since I was 5 years old.
I would consider myself a good student and positive member of my teams, my school, and my community. I try to be a leader on and off the pitch, and work as hard in the classroom as I do on the field. I enjoy a challenging academic environment at my High School which is one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools in America, and I equally enjoy being challenged at the highest levels of soccer.
I have been fortunate to play on some great teams at some highly competitive tournaments, and with great success. At U14 I played at the prestigious Jefferson Cup in Richmond VA playing in the top bracket against some of the top teams from VA, MD, NJ, and PA. At U15 my team won the Colorado state cup and we played in the Region IV Regional tournament in Hawaii making it through NorCal, SoCal, and New Mexico to the knockout rounds, losing to eventual Region Champion Washington. In June of 2014 I played in the U16 Region IV Presidents Cup Regional in Morgan Hill CA where my FC Boulder team went 2-1-1 losing in the Quarterfinal. I started every game for my High School team as a sophomore, eventually losing in penalties in the Quarterfinals of the State playoffs. I was named Honorable Mention All-Conference and voted Defensive MVP for my team. In July 2014 I completed the Mid Atlantic Elite College ID Camp where I was fortunate to compete against some great girls from CA, NY, PA, NJ, and all over the country while coached by great coaches from DI to DIII.
I would consider my ability to defend calmly, maintain possession, and start the offense from the back as some of my key strengths. I have spent a lot of time on the ball in my soccer life, playing on top and in the midfield, and I have transitioned those skills to the defensive line to play as a center back with center mid ball skills. I have good size and speed at 5’11” 150lbs allowing me to defend in the box and to the sidelines, and win balls in the air. I have good technical skills with a strong and accurate leg allowing me to handle the ball under pressure and deliver balls to the midfield or drop balls in to a streaking front line player. Seeing as I just turned 16 years old, I will only get stronger and faster as I work hard to improve myself.
I am very open to exploring my college soccer options all around the country and look forward to finding the right match for me.
Sincerely,
Morgan Gray 2016
