Personal Statement
I have played soccer since I was 4, and I know that most players have played since that same age and are also passionate about soccer. When I was in eighth grade I joined the U.S. Development Academy for Connecticut, which was the Oakwood team out of Portland, CT. I had only played for one year, but in that one year I developed so much as a defender. I can really play in any position, but I believe that I fit best in the center defensive spot because I can see the whole field. I am intuitive and pay attention to every detail, and by that I mean that I try to look at every different aspect of the field and try to think of every different outcome of what can happen. One thing I try to focus on as a mental aspect of the game is predicting where and what a player might do, and as a defender there is really not a lot of room for mistake because you are one of the last players to protect the goal, which means that I am more focused on what can happen.
I have always been told that I should strive for what I want. I have always held myself to a high standard for my academics and set a bar for myself, and when I don't reach it I know that I have to do better for the next time. I am a very teachable and coachable person and player. When I am given constructive criticism, I work to make sure that I fix what I need to fix. And one thing that I am conscious about is my academics and grades. I hold myself to a high standard and when I get below 90s I do "kick myself" a little bit. But I have always done my best on any assignment that has been given to me.
