I began soccer when I was 6 years old. My parents put me into the sport just thinking it would be a fun activity for me to play, not knowing that I would still be playing 12 years later. Soccer has taught me so many life skills that I would never have learned without it. I learned how to open up and be a gregarious person. I learned how to be a leader and to not be so afraid to express my opinion even if it differs from the norm. But, the one thing soccer has given me that I wouldn't have gotten without the sport is the friendships. It was hard for me to open up at first but then I met some really amazing people who taught me it was ok to be myself around them and I will never forget them even when I journey off to college.
In highschool I always pushed myself to get A's and B's, while juggling soccer. With this motivation I was able to maintain a high GPA while going to different states to play soccer every other weekend. I found my love of history and politics while in school and decided that I would first major in business and have a back up plan of majoring in political sciences. Soccer helped me focus a lot on my school work, because it taught me how to manage my time in a way that will help me succeed in the future. Overall, soccer has molded me to the person I am today and I would be a completely different person without it.
