Alyse Gomez '21 Recruiting Profile

When I was 13, my mom told me that her grandma died with dementia. Not knowing what that disease was at the time, I researched. I found that dementia was hereditary, and worse, there was no cure. At that moment I knew I wanted to go into the medical field, because people shouldn’t live in fear, and I believed I could help people by relieving them of at least some of their fear. Not being able to handle blood, however, I decided I wanted to help people by making medicine. I’m looking for a college to help me make this dream a reality.

            In addition to bringing this dream to fruition, I am looking for a college to challenge and support me, both on and off the field. I have always tried to challenge myself academically, whether that be through rigorous, AP courses or keeping my GPA up, and I intend on continuing to do so throughout my college career. I would not have been able to challenge myself, however, without the support of my parents. Their support has shaped me and led me to become driven, focused, determined and persistent.

            Not only do I apply those characteristics to my schoolwork, but I also bring them to the field. My drive allows me to be aggressive, my focus allows me to deliver accurate passes, my determination to improve brings me to every practice, and my persistence doesn’t allow me to give up on the ball. All these characteristics combined led me to be chosen for MVP sophomore and junior year and captain for both my club team and my school team. These positions have taught me the value of leadership, communication and loyalty, traits I hope to carry with me on and off the field.
