Since I was young I’ve always had a love for soccer. I played for the YMCA for around 2009-2010, I stopped playing for a long time because I wanted to focus on school. In the seventh grade I decided that I should try out for my middle school’s team, I made the team playing as goalie(which I immediately regretted because it wasn’t my typical position and I found it very dull), then I got hurt in 2017. I could not play for two years and it did bother me that I could not do what I love.
In 2018, a year after my initial injury, I underwent a knee scope operation, in which the doctor removed a small piece of tissue called a Plica. It took many months to recover, in which, I missed my high school's and club tryouts and was out for the remainder of the year. This year(2019) I am trying out for both varsity soccer and Junior varsity team, as well as a club team in May.
Due to my injury, I had to work, presumably twice as hard as other players to get into a condition where I could not only play but to work on my overall skills and power. Throughout my rehabilitation, I studied plays and tactics that I currently use on the field, my little stint as a goalie has helped me to have a general insight into “the mind of a goalie” in comparison to other players.
I am looking forward to playing soccer whether or not its for a college team, professional team, or even if it is just a recreational team.
Thank you for your time,
Mikella M. Gomes
