Hi, my name is Ava Lau. I am 15 years old, and a student athlete at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama. Throughout my life I’ve played multiple sports and have learned a lot about myself and my community around me. There have been many coaches who helped me strive not just as a player, but a person as well. Every single one of them have taught me lessons and helped me to grow and continue to work toward reaching my fullest potential. To start off, I have been playing soccer for about 11 years and playing competitively for 8 years. I am very passionate about soccer and have made many close friendships while learning about what teamwork really is. I am very competitive and will strive to do my best and work to uplift my team no matter what the situation may be. My greatest strengths are being able to read the game well and using my speed and size to my advantage. During my 8th grade year, I decided to try something new and run track. It definitely boosted my confidence, being that it is more of an individual sport. I run the 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, 300m hurdles, 4x100m relay, and was fortunate to have won championships in my 3rd time running the 100m hurdles race, while also placing top 3 in the state with my 4x100m relay team. I represent myself well both on and off the field, and see myself successful in both sports. I maintain a GPA of 3.8 and ensure academics is one of my top priorities. One of my goals in life is to always be kind to others, and create a better community now and in the future.
