Personal Statement
I played on one team that heavily influenced my view about what it means to be a member of a team and who I am as a person. On that team, players encouraged each other and pushed each other to be better. We worked together cohesively because of the strong bond between players and the positive atmosphere that it created. It taught me to work harder to better myself so that I could do my best and help my teammates be their best as well. Similarly, my goals academically consist of pushing myself to be better in each class, learn about new subjects and supporting my peers. For my college athletic goals, I want to compete as a dedicated member of my soccer team, but also want to balance athletics with my academic pursuits.
One challenge that had to confront, and which affected how I approach soccer, was that I had played center defense for almost my entire soccer experience, but then the following year my new coach moved me to center mid. While I was initially intimidated, through this experience I learned to evolve and be open to playing new positions. Later, it helped me when I started playing forward. Because of my experience of playing multiple positions, I understand the game of soccer more fully, and can adapt not only to different positions but also to different coaching and play styles.
Finally, an important characteristic that I possess is my ability to work with my team and my work ethic. I am very competitive; I do not give up and I constantly push myself to be a better teammate and player.
