Personal Statement
I am Savannah Simmers a junior at Columbia City High School in Columbia City, Indiana. While I was in elementary school I was always in a sport, I just always wanted to be active. I did competitive cheer-leading, karate, tennis, basketball, and volleyball but soccer was always my favorite. I started soccer when I was in 2nd grade and I played a recreational league and from there I realized that this was the sport I truly enjoyed. I loved the running, competitiveness, and the feeling of winning and scoring goals. Even though I was in a rec league and most kids their didn't do anything but stand, I was always running all over the field for the ball and wanting to do moves like the pros and score. As my second season was wrapping up, I got a call from a travel club asking me if I would be interested in playing year round. Once I started playing for club I backed off from all my other sports I was playing and dedicated all my time to soccer whether that was at practice, games, or getting better on my own time at home.
Athletically I see myself as a competitor that never gives up. I believe in playing until the clock runs out no matter what the score is I don't stop short. I also believe that I should practice like I play, I give 110% in practice and try to improve on my weak spots so that I can perform my best in matches. I know there is always room to get better and I am determined to improve every day so that I can earn a spot on a college or university team. My freshman year I joined the Track team to improve my speed for soccer season. During track season I ran the 400 and 4x400 relay and competed in regionals. Since 7th grade my goal was to play soccer after high school and I will work my hardest to achieve that goal. While I play for both Columbia City and Fort Wayne Sports Club, I typically play Forward and Midfield positions but I am always willing to play wherever the coach see's me helping the team the most during a match.
As for academics I always push myself to get better. I challenge myself and take all Honors classes and Advanced Placement classes for college credit to help me later. I am a straight A student and have a full schedule every year which is helping me prepare for college even more. I have superb time-management skills that I have adapted since I do High School Soccer, Club, and High School Track while balancing my school work. I am determined to finish high school with a 3.9 GPA out of 4.0 with my classes so I can get into a great school that will help me pursue my future orthodontics career.
As my last years of high school are approaching, my goal to represent a College or University not only athletically but academically as well is now one of my most important priorities.
