I started playing soccer at five years old. Having only one practice every week, I didn’t play much. When I would get home from school, though, I would go in the backyard and kick the soccer ball around with my dad. Soccer has been my favorite thing to do ever since. I have played at the travel level for eight years and have never gotten tired of it.
Soccer has provided an activity that is unique to me. Everyone in my family, both my parents and my two siblings, play tennis. I was forced to play tennis when I was younger, as well as soccer, but never loved going to tennis practices. Finally, I decided to stop playing. The team aspect of soccer drew me towards the sport. The speed of play, the running, and the closeness of teammates were reasons to play.
Unlike some players, I am never in the off-season. Whether I am playing high school soccer or travel soccer, I am always getting touches on the ball. In the spring, I play varsity-level lacrosse as well as travel soccer which means I am always busy. However, when I do have the chance I build up my endurance, I strength train and work on my skills in the backyard.
Although school is my number one focus, soccer is my second. I go to a rigorous college prep school where I take all honors classes. In the next two years of high school I plan on taking APs.
At my school we have many different clubs. I am in the student council and Best Buddies clubs. Once a month for Best Buddies, we go to the Blind School and do activities with students there. On the weekends and in the summer, I love to babysit and volunteer at the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Other than soccer, I love to be around kids, animals, and take photos. My freshman year I won a national award from the Scholastics Art and Writing competition for my photography. In college I am interested in many different topics and studies that incorporate my interests. I hope to further my education at a great academic school with a strong soccer program.
Choosing a college is a very important decision for me. I want to continue to challenge myself in the classroom as well as the soccer field. I have been known to be a leader and have an outgoing personality, which is why I would be a great recruit for your team. I would love to be able to continue my soccer experience at the collegiate level.
