Personal Statement
Throughout my life I had been told by so many people that there was no way that I would make it on the varsity soccer team as an incoming freshmen. My parents always told me if you work for it you can achieve it, (cliche right?), but I took that to heart. So when it came time for summer conditioning I was out there everyday working my hardest, getting to practice early, and leaving late. Despite all the disbelievers, I made it on the varsity soccer team and I was even the starting striker. However things weren’t perfect; when my coach announced the starting line up of the first game, I had taken a seniors spot as starting striker, a position she had since her freshmen year. Let's just say I immediately became her least favorite person. Throughout that season I learned that there are going to be people that don't like you no matter what, even if you personally didn’t do anything to them. I learned to deal with people and to not let anything distract me from what I was there to accomplish.
I took those lessons from that season into the classroom and into life. Throughout my soccer career I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned how to perform under pressure; for example taking a game deciding PK. Situations like having to take the direct free kick after a foul taught me how to keep a level head even in the hardest situations. I even learned how to deal with people under all circumstances as a captain that has to lead the team through some rough games. I’ve also learned patience and dedication through musical instruments; I’ve played the guitar, my main instrument, for ten year, but I also play the ukulele, piano, and mandolin. For the first four years of playing guitar I learned music theory inside and out, and as an 8 year old, it’s not a fun thing to learn. But because I was interested in the guitar, I stuck with it despite how redundant running through all the scales were. Even though I’m only 17, I feel that I’ve learned a lot in my life, but there is a whole lot more out there to learn and I want to experience new things. With my work ethic, athleticism, and leading abilities as a captain and three-sport athlete, I feel that I could make a serious impact on your team at the collegiate level. I know for a fact that I personally have what it takes to be a serious member and leader on your team.
