Personal Statement
I want to study engineering in college. I currently have a 4.16 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I am looking for a college with a solid academic reputation and a strong engineering program. I think what sets me apart academically and athletically is my work ethic. Whether it is school or sports, I work extremely hard, all of the time.
I go to the largest high school in the state of Maine. Making the Varsity soccer team as a freshman was a huge deal for me as only two of us made Varsity that year. For my whole freshman season, I played outside mid. But I was given a bigger role my sophomore year. During my sophomore season, I played every position: center forward, outside forward, offensive center mid, defensive center mid, and center back. I never knew where my coach would play me. I accepted that role and was happy to play wherever my team needed me. When it came time for my junior year, my coach told me that I would be playing center back for the entire season. I embraced that role and at the end of the season I made the First Team, All Conference for Defense. I was also named Co-Captain for my upcoming Senior year.
I also play a versatile role for my premier team. Throughout the years, I’ve played every position (including goal, in a pinch) for my premier team. I’ve led my team to the state championship three years in a row, and we’ve won three tournaments. For one tournament, I scored nine goals in four games, leading my team to a tournament victory.
I think my versatility also sets me apart from other recruits. I am able and willing to play wherever my coaches need me to play. And, I thrive on this challenge. Throughout the seasons, I have learned the values of teamwork, commitment, and leadership. I am looking for a program that will be a fit for me athletically and academically. Whatever position you need, I will play it!
