I started playing soccer when I was five years old. My sister was a soccer player, and as her little sister, I did everything she did. Growing up, I played for my towns recreational teams and loved every second. Game days were my favorite days and my whole family would come cheer me on. Ever since I learned the rules of the game, I have loved it. My passion has never wavered, and all I have wanted to do is get better and push myself to the absolute limit.
I began playing for my club team, GPS, when I was eight years old. It was a completely different level of play then I had ever experienced, and I fell in love with it. My teammates have become my best friends and we continue to push each other every day to be the best players we possibly can be.
I have looked up to many players over the years including many of those on the U.S Women’s National Team. My favorite player of all time is Julie Ertz, as I think she is so versatile and so effective on the ball. She was on the National Team as a center back, but has recently gotten bumped up to play the six, and she has been so crucial in the midfield, scoring goals and assisting her fellow teammates. I have always looked up to her as I have played all over the field growing up including at center back, center forward, on the wings, and even in goal during my youth years. I have found home at center mid, but I am willing to play anywhere, much like Julie Ertz.
My role on the pitch as a midfielder has been an exciting one to fill. I am effective with the ball at my feet and beat defenders to the net whenever I can. I am also good at distributing the ball and getting my team up the field to dangerous goal scoring position. I love scoring goals, but I love assisting just as much and I think it is a crucial part of the game. I have also found my voice on the field and am a leader to my teammates. From watching and playing so much soccer, I have developed a good vision of the field and strong tactical intelligence.
Off the pitch, my love for the game shows just as much. I genuinely want all of my teammates to succeed, and will support them through everything. I’ve been a captain on my club team for five years, and got the opportunity to be the captain for my 2002 FC Bayern National Team in Denmark. From my experience of being captain for many different teams, I have realized the importance of being a captain off the field as well. I have learned how to make all of my teammates feel welcome, and grow strong relationships with those I play with. I think strong relationships off the field correlate to strong play on the field, so I really value team bonding and getting to know those you play with.
Soccer has always been a priority for me, but academics have always come first. Through all of my schooling, I have valued the importance of education and have always done my best. I have been able to keep up a 4.0 over my high school career thus far, and I plan to continue to push myself with challenging classes during my senior year. I am also very involved with my school and really value extracurriculars. I started my schools Upcycling Club last year which is something I am very passionate about. Upcycling is both creative and sustainable and I have really found a passion for it. I am also involved with the Green Voices Society, Acting Locally Club, and am a Student Ambassador. I have always valued being a well rounded student athlete, and my education has always come first.
