Personal Statement
I started playing soccer 5 years ago and could not imagine my life without it. As a military child I move around often and with that get the opportunity to play with many different teams. This has challenged me to adjust to different team environments and styles of soccer. I've learned that in between the many differences, hard work is always a present factor in a strong team. Thus I always push myself beyond my limits and uphold hard work as one of my strongest traits. Although this trait has led me to success in my academics and athletics, it conflicts with me when I am injured. I tore my ACL April 14 2021 in the last high school game and had surgery on May 19. The seriousness of the injury left me shocked and confused on what to do in the next few months. I was left with the questions 'If I cannot physically play soccer, how do I improve? What do I do in the meantime?'. That's when I realized I had to change my perspective of it. If at the moment I can't push myself in one aspect in my life, I have to channel that energy into a different aspect. If I can't run, I'll work on my upper body. If I can't work on the physical aspect of soccer, I'll work on my mentality as an athlete. If I can't attend practice, I'll stay home and work on my academics. Going to PT twice a week, I have seen steady improvement. I have full mobility now and am working on strengthening. With my progress, I am projected to return back to full contact in November.
