I am a Freshman at Walkersville High School in Frederick, MD. I expect to have a wonderful high school experience in both academics and as a Keeper for our soccer team.
I started playing soccer when I was five. I knew I wanted to be a goalkeeper by the time I was six and started playing club soccer when I was seven. That was the beginning of my passion as an athlete. I can't believe how my passion has grown over the years. I started setting goals for myself to play in college when I was nine. My parents gave me encouragement and the opportunity to start training with Pells Keeper School. Coach Laurie started me on the path to becoming a well rounded student athlete.
Thanks to coach Laurie, by the time I finished elementary school, I knew how to make a solid plan for middle school. I put in more training sessions and I worked in the gym on building strength and agility. Coach Laurie believes that keepers should be the fittest athlete on the field. I set my goal for a 4.0 GPA. I made time to train younger soccer players on fundamentals. My sister’s team ask me to train them weekly on both foot skill basics and keeper skills. I enjoy teaching young keepers the foundation skills that will give them a chance to grow into an outstanding athlete. I learned from Girl Scouts how important being a positive role model an be, an I want to have an impact on younger female athletes. I appreciate how much my family and sacrificed their time and resources for my goals and dreams, and I am trying to give my enthusiasm and time to younger players. I have learned how I enjoy coaching, and that may be part of my future.
Middle school went by very fast, but I accomplished my 4.0 GPA and received First Honors. I continued participating in the STEM program offered through FT. Detrick at Hood College. I have interned four summers in this program and learned that I enjoy engineering and coding. I helped my club team rise to 2nd place in the Maryland standings. We won tournaments and had a lot of success. Now, setting my goals for high school.
In stepping up my training, my family made it possible for me to attend Dynasty Goalkeeping and continue with clinics and Boot Camps with Pells Keeper School. I bumped up my fitness training for high school tryouts. My goal was to build on my 1v1 saves, my specialty, and master the “starfish” save. I worked on strengthening my running stride to gain speed. I wanted to be the best prepared athlete for high school tryouts. My dad took me to the gym regularly and the track, my sister was training alongside me too. I had Coach Laurie and Coach Tracey Noonan giving me pointers and advice on how to push myself to higher levels. My dad helped me stay focused. The summer work was hard, but I proved myself at tryouts. My running time and skills matched the varsity standards. With the knowledge that the varsity team has a senior and junior keeper, I didn't expect to make varsity, but I wanted to show the coaches I could play on varsity. The coaches were impressed and made me captain of the JV team. I look forward to a great fall season with my team. I just started my classes and I expect to have the same academic outcome this semester. High school is just beginning and I know it will no time before I am making decisions on college. I will put in the same work philosophy as always to put my best efforts toward success.
