Personal Statement
The feeling of playing soccer is by far one of my favorite feelings in the whole world, especially being a goalkeeper. Diving for that far corner shot, attacking that girl on a fast break and the rush of adrenaline running through my veins once I get up off the ground. There’s nothing better than that feeling. Soccer has been my best friend for almost my entire life and once I decided I wanted to be a goalkeeper full time that’s when I wanted soccer to play an even larger role in my life than it already had been. On top of wanting to continue my soccer career throughout college I have the hope of pursuing a career in physical therapy; being an athletic trainer, so I can stay connected with sports as much as I can and help other people benefit in their athletics.
As I started my varsity career in soccer my sophomore year my coach told me that he wanted me to assist with being one of his central defenders as well as being the back up goalkeeper to a graduating senior. My coach believed that I could help the team not only as the back up goalie but also as a defender even though I hadn’t played as a field player in several years. I found myself not only starting as a center back but even playing in net in several games. My coach believes I will be a starting goalie next year and further assist the team and it’s success.
I’ve always been referred to as an unselfish player, I always look at the team first before any of my aspirations. I want the team to benefit as much as possible and I’ll do whatever it takes to ensure the team succeeds. I’ve learned that from not only playing soccer but also from playing varsity basketball.
As my junior year started, I became the starting varsity goalie and my team finished in second place in the Kelley-Rex Division in the Hockmock League, with a record of 10-2-5, just behind Mansfield. Overall I only allowed nine goals in 17 games, and posted nine shutouts. My defensive line in front of me was phenomenal and they were a big part of our team's success.
As a member of the student officers (class treasurer) I put forth what I’ve learned as a team player in athletics towards the success of my class of 2020. I also put in as much effort towards my grades, which has lead me to be an honor role student for the last several years. Finally, I’ve taken what I’ve learned from the field and put it towards coaching and mentoring younger athletes in both soccer and basketball.
