My name is Rowan Apotsos and I am a member of the class of 2028 at Mount Greylock Regional High School (Williamstown, Massachusetts). I am a member of Greylock's varsity girls' soccer team, where I've started all three years beginning my seventh grade year, and I play both center back and CDM, occasionally moving to forward when speed is needed to score goals. I am very excited about playing soccer in college. I have been playing soccer since I was six and have always enjoyed both the athletic and team aspects of the sport. I believe that a player is only as good as their team and a big part of how I play soccer is oriented around playing as a team instead of just an individual.
Some of my team's achievements at Greylock so far have included winning the Greive league conference championship three times, being a finalist in the Western Mass (PVIAC) championship three times (and winning it once!), and making it to the elite eight in the Division 5 state playoffs twice. As an individual, I've been Greylock’s 2022 Rookie of the Year and have been selected for the Grieve League All Star team three times (2022, 2023, and 2024), the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Association All League all-star team three times (2022, 2023, and 2024), and the All Western Mass Class C First Team twice (2023 and 2024, with Honorable Mention in 2022).
In addition to my school team, I have also participated on a number of club teams including Blackrock FC, Boston Bolts FC (2009 White Elite, 2009 IMPACT NPL, 2010 IMPACT NPL), and Berkshire Ajax (U16 and U18). I will be playing for IFA New England (NAL 2010) starting the Spring of 2025. I was also invited to join the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program (2010 Girls) for the 2025 season but declined due to my spring commitment with IFA New England.
Along with soccer I also play on two different hockey teams and run for Greylock's track and field team. Although each sport is very different, I have found they each help me develop different abilities that I can then transfer to soccer. Hockey has not only taught me to be physical but also when physicality is needed; too much can take me out of a play while too little doesn't make an impact. Hockey has also helped me train my defensive IQ, which I see as one of my strengths. Track has helped my speed which comes in handy time and time again when I'm either chasing down forwards or being first to the ball.
I strive to do my best not only in my athletics but also my academics. I am currently in the highest math class in my grade and try to take as many honors courses as I can. I also participate in extracurriculars that allow me to continue to work as part of a team and accomplish things I think are important; my current extracurriculars include student council, the youth environmental service committee, and the debate club.
As a soccer player, I see my strengths as being my speed, my IQ, my physicality, and my coachability. But as both a student and an athlete, I am also a very hard worker and consistently strive to perform better. I work on my soccer skills every day and am constantly looking for feedback to help me develop. I also understand it takes a lot of hard work to be able to compete at the college level and I am willing to take every extra step I need to get there.
