Personal Statement
The place I am the happiest is the soccer field. I’ve been playing for 12 years, two and a half years ago I switched to goalkeeping. My coach needed someone to step up and try it, I decided I would and fell in love with it that day, I enjoy the adrenaline and responsibility of being a goalkeeper. I believe my most important job as a goalie is to communicate to my teammates what I can see and they cannot and to keep the team focused and motivated regardless of the situation during the game.
It is through sports that I discovered I am a leader, an encourager, and a good communicator. Last year, I was chosen as captain of my JV high school soccer team and freshman volleyball team. I also discovered my ability to perform well under pressure, when I was pulled up to varsity and played the first two games of the season in goal, a half in goal, and two additional games in the field. These skills are part of my strengths as a goalkeeper.
Throughout my life, I have had many coaching styles in multiple different sports (soccer, volleyball, gymnastics and basketball). Every coach I’ve had tells me I’m a coachable player and can apply what they tell me to fix quickly. I like direct and honest communication from coaches and teammates. Currently, I coach beginning gymnastics and enjoy learning how to be more coachable and how to improve by being on the other side of that relationship. I am looking forward to continuing to learn life and soccer skills through a great college soccer experience at a University that allows me to have a balance of academics, sports and social experiences.
