Adele Nieuwsma '23 Recruiting Profile

As the oldest of ten kids, I am a natural-born leader and carry that boldness with me to the field. I’m known for being tenacious and loud. Whether playing defensive mid, center back, or goalkeeper, I don’t back down when my goal is threatened or my teammates need my help. I believe in giving consistent and rigorous effort, whether I’m in the final minutes of a game or pushing through finals at school. I hope to continue playing out my passion for soccer while pursuing my undergrad degree. I know I’ll be in school for the long haul, since I aim to become a nurse practitioner. 

From age four, what I’ve grown to love best about soccer is the relationship building with my teammates, leading to that amazing feeling of team cohesiveness during a tough game. Protecting the goal at all costs has also built courage and perseverance in me, enabling me to feel like I can handle whatever life throws at me. 

I believe I bring more than just skills to a team. I bring energy, unity, and leadership. My coaches appreciate my optimism and ability to remain calm and consistent through the most intense games. I always aspire to be the best version of myself possible, which means more than just excelling in sports. It means maintaining a teachable attitude, leading first by example, and calling my teammates higher.
