Hi, my name is Emma Smith. I am in my junior year. I am a left foot shooter but also can be a strong right foot. I have been a forward for my varsity soccer team and the backup goalkeeper as well. Over this past year I have moved to outside mid on the left for my club team and that also was the case with my varsity team. For my varsity team this (2017) year I played outside mid, attacking mid and forward. Wherever it seemed I could help my team the most is where I went. My plans for the future are to go to a college where I feel I can get the best education and continue with my goals. Those goals include a degree in education and to graduate with a high gpa. My academics are very important to me and I believe what I learn in high school and college will mold me for who I become as an adult. I also know that being an athlete teaches you respect, teamwork and dedication. I have learned a lot from my mother as to being a person who does not give up and goes for it with all you have.
I started playing soccer at the age of 3 with the kids in the neighborhood and then joined a team when I was 6. Soccer made me realize it meant something more than just scoring goals, I realized I had a passion for it. Playing soccer has not only given me a love for the game, it has given me skills that I can use throughout my life. Leadership, teamwork and responsibility are the three most important skills that I learned while growing up in the life of soccer. My mother taught me to always make my own decisions in life, to be a leader not a follower. Soccer has helped me immensely in that area of life. Leadership is not just about being in charge or having power, it is about being a role model. A leader in soccer is somebody who is always positive, encouraging and a finisher. When I play a game I lay my heart out on the field I give it everything I have, even during a losing game. I don't let a loss discourage me but only challenge me to do something more or to push me to the next level. Other activities that I do that teach these exact same skills is 4-H and FFA. I am actively involved in both. I show beef cattle and sheep. I love my cattle; I raise Angus, Charolais, Limousin and have some crossbreds. I am also a basketball player. I have played for three years now and was on the JV squad my freshman year.
I am hoping to continue my soccer career into my college years and bring my skills of leadership, teamwork and responsibility to the team. Now what I need to know is who wants to continue to teach the game and life lessons to me? I am willing to learn, just need a new "Coach"!
