Personal Statement
Hi,
My name is Kayla Matuzak and I will be a Junior in 2020-2021 at South St. Paul High School in South St. Paul, Minnesota. I am looking to play at a competitive level in college and hope to be able to make an impact right away. I am also looking at being in a college where I can learn and be a better person.
I am a goalkeeper and have been ever since I was 9 years old. I began playing in South St. Paul with my community soccer team when I was 5 years old. I have played with the Salvo soccer club for the past 4 years and played this year on a Premier team and also am a team captain. As a Freshman and Sophomore at my high school, I started as the Varsity goalkeeper. In 2019, I made the Minnesota 2004 ODP team as one of 2 keepers. I have worked with many goalkeeper trainers through Salvo Soccer Club. These trainers have shown me how to be an aggressive keeper that communicates and shows leadership skills. I am a good listener that takes constructive criticism well. I've always heard from my coaches that I am "coachable".
In high school, I have achieved good grades and rewards for my academics. I have been a part of WEB programs that show leadership to younger students. I also played varsity hockey with South St. Paul HS. and we made the Minnesota State Tournament in 2020, where we place 5th in the state.
I am looking forward to learning more through my high school years about soccer and myself. I want to go to a college that will enable me to learn, have fun, and become a better person. I also want to continue my soccer skills at the highest level that I can possibly be.
Thanks for taking the time to read more about me!
Kayla
