Personal Statement
Hello, My name is Makayla Farnum and I will be graduating in 2021. I play center forward for my club team and wing for my high school varsity team. Although I am dominant right, I use my left a lot and I am constantly working to get better. I have played soccer since 7 years old. Throughout my entire life, I have had amazing support from my family and the people I surround myself with. I have a fun, loving, and reliable personality which helps me to bond with teammates on each team I have been on. I am a very dedicated and reliable player. I dedicate myself to my team, making sure I go to every practice, game, event, etc. The moment I step onto the field, I set my personal life aside and focus on what needs to be done and I never give up, no matter the score. If we are losing, I do my best to motivate my teammates and remind them to keep their heads up and not give up. One of my biggest strengths I have against every team is my speed with and without the ball. Although my speed is what catches the eye of most, I am also very talented in crossing and shooting, as I know how important every individual chance is. I am used to playing a fast-paced game with lots of communication with my teammates on and off the field. I am looking for a school that has a family-like team atmosphere. Although I attended the 2017 Far West Regionals in Seattle, Washington with Players 02 Elite, I feel that my switch to LVSA soccer club had the biggest impact on my soccer career. I feel this way, because I have always bonded with my previous teams, but I feel like my bond with my current LVSA team is the strongest one I have had so far. Ever since I have switched, I have had more chemistry on and off the field, which benefits my soccer life and my social life, which is very important to me.
When I graduate high school, I plan to go straight into college and major in Physical Therapy. That way I can surround myself with sports and have the ability to help athletes going through injuries to recover and return back to their sport stronger than they were before. I currently have a weighted GPA of 3.96 and I have been enrolled in my high school's Sports Medicine Program since I switched high schools after my freshman year. I am currently in the highest Sports Medicine class that my school provides. From my experience with my own injuries, I feel like what I have been taught while injured and what I will learn in college will shape me into an amazing Physical Therapist. I will be able to relate with my clients and understand their desires to recover and get back to playing the sport they love.
