Personal Statement

Saying a sport is your life is a bit obsessive, but saying soccer is my life is an understatement.  The thrill, nerves, butterflies, excitement; all the feelings rushing through my body just to play this game.  The hard work and satisfaction you feel once it all finally pays off.  The new family you have just made.  The smell of the early morning, day after day, working until you are at you are best, night after night.  The pain that feels great.  The goals you are striving to accomplish.  The soccer field is where I become who I want to be, where I am most content.  The constant battle to get better and be better.
Looking forward to fall and spring has become a routine since I have been 5.  Now I strive for the early morning high school sessions and the late night work outs.   The sweating and pain and pushing yourself to a point where you just do not want to stop is what I feel for those 4 months in training.  Working with 18 other girls who have now become your sisters, who are also working for the same thing.  The wins and losses, happiness and tears, it has all brought us together.  The girls who have your back no matter what, is what makes going out there and working hard worth it all day.  They help make this field and time spent out on the field like a second home.
The chills that go through my body before, during, and after a game are undescribable.  The pre game nerves waiting for the whistle to sound.  The cheers from the crowd.  The battle you are fighting for 90 minutes.  The pain and love for the same reason all at one time.  The decisions made in seconds to help the outcome of your game.  The excitement when you win.  The people who now look up to you.  The people who depend on you to make a name for your team.  The people you are making proud.  The 10 other girls out on the field with you helping.  The arguments made out of anger, that all seem to be forgotten once you have won.  All feelings you can not feel unless you are out on that field playing your heart out.
Soccer is meaningful because it has become a part of me.  My accomplishments and goals are based off of soccer.  I’ve become and have grown into who I am today because of soccer.  I’ve made a whole new family because of soccer.  Soccer has helped me make my name into something to be proud of.  Junior year in high school I got recruited to play a tournament in Italy.  I scored 10 goals in 5 days, and got named MVP.  Coming home from that was breath taking.  Everyone was so proud, and right then and there I realized I had something that shows who I am, and proves to people how hard I work.  A year later I scored my 100th career goal for my high school team then set a new goal record ended my high school soccer career with 113 goals.  From people who knew soccer to people who did not know we even had a soccer team, they all came to support me.  The happiness that I’ve been brought because of soccer has been a blessing.  A sport can become a big role in your life and that is what soccer has become for me.
