For as long as I can remember, soccer has been a huge part of my life. I’ve been playing for over ten years and I love it more today than ever. I even watch soccer videos as I eat dinner.
Playing on my high school soccer team is the best thing I do. The girls on my team are my best friends and win or lose we are always there for each other. My ideal college, while still being competitive, would try to encourage that same feeling of teamwork. I’ve been on teams with a lot of talent but the girls were sometimes very competitive with each other. The most successful teams I’ve been on have never had the best talent but they’ve always had girls that pulled for each other and were positive no matter what. That’s the kind of player and teammate I strive to be. I love winning but that seems to just happen when your coach and the girls you’re playing with are your biggest supporters.
Playing club and varsity soccer definitely puts a big strain on my academics. I’ve been playing both club and varsity soccer year round since I was a freshman in high school. My high school team practices six days per week and we play over twenty games in a season. I’ve missed dances, sleepovers, and movie nights to study and keep my grades at a high level. To be a successful athlete and student has meant a lot of sacrifices but in the end it’ll all be worth it if I can play for a college team that has these same goals.
I work hard at every practice. I listen to my coaches, I watch film and I try and bring a high level of intensity to the field every day. When I play, I play at 110%. I will always give my team everything I have.
My coach and high school advisors tell me that all high school students eventually end up going to the right college for them. With hard work both on and off the field I’m sure that’ll be the case for me as well.
