Personal Statement
My first experience on a high school level soccer team left much to be desired. The varsity team was a hierarchy. Coaches, Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores… Freshman. This means that freshmen are the last to go in the game, being the only freshman on varsity, I sat the bench, for two years with no opportunity to show my skills. How can a player improve if they don't get playing time, or even training time? With the added set back of a broken ankle at the end of my freshman year, staying invested in my team became a struggle. Having a difficult time with friends and academics, transferring schools was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Given the opportunity to succeed not only athletically but academically, is a great feeling. I currently play as the starting varsity goalkeeper. Gaining experience, as well as rediscovering my love for the game. Being fortunate enough to be part of an amazing club program, as a third-year captain I put soccer and the physical and mental wellbeing of my teammates above all else with the exception of my academics.
My goal in college soccer is to play to my full ability, improve, and help my fellow players along the way. I believe in good leadership skills and hard work. A goalkeeper is a position like no other, playing this position has not only taught me the ins and outs of the game of soccer but also how to lead my team from on and off the field. Improving my self on every level is my first priority. I am looking for a program that will fit me athletically as well as academically. I have never been the kind of player to back down from a challenge, and I plan to keep giving my all for the game that I love.
