Personal Statement
My name is Shivani Howe and I have been playing soccer for over 12 years. I am also very focused on my studies and my goal of becoming a physician. My entire family is full of overachievers, including my dad who works on discovering therapeutics for viruses including COVID-19, my mom who helps entrepreneurs to be successful, my brother who is currently studying mechanical and aerospace engineering, and my sister who was just accepted into Harvard Law School. It's a tough act to follow, but watching how all of them have worked hard to achieve their goals is truly inspiring to me! I hope to study chemistry and complete my pre-med requirements while playing soccer in an environment best fit for me, and eventually attend medical school at a top institution.
I started playing soccer for fun when I was 4 years old and by the time I reached middle school I realized it had become a passion. Today I feel like I would not be complete without soccer as a part of my everyday life. I am a very versatile player and am comfortable in almost any position. I have played each position on the field at some point, including goalkeeper which I played on the Olympic Development Program team for two years. I have also acquired a broad soccer IQ which allows me to make good decisions on the field. One thing I have learned to do extremely well is to manage my time so I can excel in my studies and also be my best as a player. I am dedicated and motivated in soccer as well as academics, and I believe I will be a strong addition to a college team that values talent and intelligence both on and off the field!
