My name is Cecilia Smith and I am a senior at Warren County Technical School. My two favorite things in life include soccer and studying history and I am looking forward to going to a college where I can focus on and excel in both subjects. I first found my passion for soccer through my mom. I followed in her footsteps by becoming a goalie and received most of my training, mentoring, and support from her as well. Reflecting back on my soccer career, she without a doubt had the biggest impact on me. She taught me the bravery, skill, and determination needed to be a goalie. Knowing that my height would make it harder for me as a goalie I especially focus on practicing skills such as cutting off the angle of a shot and attacking the ball.
Throughout my childhood and high school years I played multiple sports including soccer, basketball, and softball. While I enjoyed playing all of these sports, as time went on I soon realized that soccer was the sport I truly loved and wanted to continue onto the collegiate level. Growing up playing all of these sports taught me a lot. I learned the basics of teamwork, practice, and sacrifice. However, as I got older and became a more serious athlete I acquired traits such as leadership, bravery, hard work, and dedication. Whenever I found myself struggling, both inside and outside of athletics, I was able to reflect on the countless things I have learned from being an athlete. This allowed me to grow as a person as well as become a better student, athlete, and friend. Once I began playing soccer in high school my passion for the sport grew as well as my determination and dedication while on and off the field. I began to excel in areas such as leadership and teamwork. In my last season of soccer I was elected team captain as well as MVP by my coach and team. I was also awarded honorable mention by the Skylands Conference.
