Personal Statement

The passion I have for soccer can be best expressed in the words of one of my favorite soccer players, Mia Hamm, "I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion."  I have been involved in athletics since I was 5 years old, and soccer is my most favorite sport. I enjoy being part of a team and I push myself to be my best. I am a dedicated and conscientious player, attending all practices and giving my all effort on the field. I stay positive, even when my team may feel down when we are struggling, and I support my teammates with steadfast encouragement. Indubitably, I aspire to play soccer in college and am open to attending any college, at any location in the country. Currently, I am undecided as to what major I want to pursue, but I do have interest in sciences, like biology, zoology and environmental science.  Hence, I'm open to all types of four year colleges and will be requesting financial assistance. Although my education is an important part of my life, playing collegiate soccer is my ultimate dream. Physically I'm 5'6'' and 150 lbs., dominantly left handed and footed, and I have a strong kick when I play soccer.  My skills enabled me to play varsity in 8th grade and 9th grade at the Santa Fe Indian School, start for the past five seasons, play entire games, and take almost all goal kicks, corner kicks and free kicks.  In my junior and senior seasons, I have played predominantly as goalkeeper. For the past three seasons, I have had the honor serving as Team Captain, which I feel is a reflection of the additional unique leadership skills I acquired as a seasoned soccer player with a Black Belt in karate. Karate has taught me confidence, perseverance, respect, integrity, courage and indomitable spirit. It's these qualities that have helped me become the enthusiastic soccer player I am and the player I will be at the collegiate level.
