Personal Statement
As a junior in high school I have not yet decided my college major. I know that I need to choose a college that has a variety of majors because when the day comes to decide, I would like to have choices. The one thing I have learned as an athlete is time management. My school work has always been a major priority and I have really learned to budget my time between school work and sports.
Academically, I am a 3.0 student. I challenge myself academically by taking honors English and honors United States History. I currently have a 504 because I was born 90% deaf in my left ear, and had a significant hearing deficit in my right ear. Through multiple surgeries I have gained most of my hearing back. In some crazy way I am grateful having gone through this. It made me work harder then most people need to and that has become a major part of who I am.
I believe what makes me stand out as a soccer player the most is my speed. I have always been a fast sprinter, but I am able to explode and get to the ball on a fast break or travel with the ball down the field at top speed. It provides me with a lot of opportunities to go one on one with the goalie. My ability to see the field also makes me stand out. I am able to get the ball to find my teammates and provides the team with more scoring opportunities. Lastly, I believe that I am extremely coachable. I have always had great relationships with all of my soccer coaches. They know how hard I am willing to work and have always brought me opportunities to me to improve my game.
When I think of college I can not imagine not playing soccer. Of course I am looking for a college experience, but it is more important to me that I have a positive team experience. Being apart of team that acts like a family has always been important to me. As the captain of my travel team, I love that we all care about each other, celebrate each other's successes and push each other to be the best players we can possible be. I truly believe that my high school team won the New York State Championship was because we were not only playing as a high school team, but we were playing as a family.
I am looking forward to playing soccer in college. I know that I will bring the best version of myself where ever I end up. I will work to make my coaches proud and will always put the team first.
