A passion, a skill, an escape, hobby, pastime, a love, family, a second life, this is what soccer means to me. Not just a sport, but a whole community without whom I would not be the same person. Coaches and teammates that I spend more time with than my own family, who unknowingly pushed me through some of the hardest times of my life, the rush of adrenaline, excitement and joy that brings that natural high, and the emptiness that would come with giving it all up, this is why I play. This passion has travelled with me from England to Hong Kong, and now New York, showing no signs of letting up. Although soccer is a part of my identity, school will always come first, where I thrive and relish learning, feeding my brain, reading and writing, soaking up knowledge, particularly in the humanities. I aspire to go to a great academic university, where my studies are a priority, but where I may also feed my passion for soccer, playing for a team who loves the sport as much as I. As someone whose goal is to try it all - clubs, jobs, sports, academics, volunteering, and everything in-between - I hope that soccer will serve as my ticket to reaching this future, and remaining a passionate athlete does not seem such a difficult price to pay.
