Personal Statement
First and foremost I am looking for an outstanding academic institution. I am committed to playing at the college level and have put in the extra work to prepare, including numerous camps, frequent soccer-specific fitness, technical training, and one-on-one training sessions.
I am an excellent student taking nearly all honors and AP classes in high school. I am also involved in many other extra curricular activities including Girl Scouts, church youth group, National Honor Society, French Club and others. I enjoy volunteering in my community and making a difference with the activities I participate in.
I have an outstanding knowledge of the game including formations, tactics, etc. I use both feet equally well and am willing and capable of playing multiple positions. I am also an outstanding teammate and very coachable. One aspect I enjoy most of the game is being able to play with other players and work with coaches to gain a greater knowledge of the game and push me to be better.
Some qualities that stand out about me are my academic determination and rigor, work ethic, speed, skill and knowledge of the game. I give effort in everything I do and am determined to improve every time I step onto the field. Soccer has taught me so much and has made me the person I am today. Soccer has taught me how to be graceful in wins and losses, given me a competitive fire and eagerness for the game.
Here are a few things my coaches have said about me as a player and teammate:
"...is such an amazing teammate and a pleasure to coach. She has established herself as a well-liked part of the team" - Philip Poole, USSDA Coach, current Goalkeeper Coach for the U.S. Women's National Team
"Great kid and I'm so glad she's been with us and has been so fully committed." - Ian Dennis, ECNL Coach, 2019 Charlotte area Club Coach of the Year
"Lydia is a different kind of player from what I've seen of most female players over the years. She's got the typical speed and athletic ability of a lot of good players but she's unusual in her ability to control the attack in the center midfield area. Her natural tendency is to pick out runners with quality passes while under pressure of multiple opponents. In all my years of coaching I haven’t had a female player who naturally did that. She’s got very good ball skills that allow her to maintain close control of the ball and circulate with it while giving the opportunity for players to make runs. If you put good players around her that are mobile off the ball my expectation would that you would see some really good stuff happen.” - Bob Pierce, Predator Coach
