Personal Statement
Soccer has been in my life since I was young. I grew up in a family of ten, and nearly everyone found themselves kicking around a soccer ball at any chance they had. Being a part of a big family gave me a chance to share my passion for sports and also have teammates at home. We played together on the field and off the field.
While living in Haiti during the summer of 2011, I spent a lot of my time playing soccer with my siblings and Haitians in the village. I realized that the Haitians were just as passionate about soccer as me, and they hardly had anything. They played barefooted on rocky pavements, and even dirt. They had no such idea of shin guards and fancy Nike cleats, they just played. Haiti opened my mind and my heart to how blessed I am to be educated, to be able to play soccer safely, to worship God without question, to drink clean water, to eat three meals a day, and to have the love and support from a family every day of my life.
Since returning from the experience, I have continued to grow in my faith in Christ, my love for soccer, and my academic goals have also grown. While being involved with indoor and outdoor soccer, track, youth group, learning Creole and traveling, I have managed to stay on the first honor role. I have learned that being a leader on the field starts by being a leader in the classroom. I try to motivate my teammates in both settings so that collectively, we can be as successful as possible in our dreams. I look forward to being a better team leader next year as a captain.
I have grown up with this sport always being a part of me, and I would love to continue playing in a collegiate level upon my graduation from Delta High School
