Personal Statement
One of my strongest characteristic traits is my leadership ability. I feel that I am a natural leader. I realized this strength first, in the fall of 2018. I was captain of my club team, Pennine United. I came home on a Saturday afternoon, in September, from a soccer game; to a tragic accident involving my family. On this day my youngest cousin lost her life in an ATV accident. This was by far the worst day of my life. I wanted to give up everything including soccer. I fortunately, had amazing support from my family, teammates and coaches. I realized that as the team captain, I could not walk away from these people. I leaned in on my teammates, worked harder than ever before and it led us to a Premiere II championship win.
I also became aware of my leadership ability after my freshman high school soccer season. I was one of two starting freshman on the team. I started every single game and rarely came off the field. I felt as if this was a huge accomplishment as a freshman starter. My sophomore year I was asked to be a captain. With the challenges of Covid-19 my coach looked to me as a leader and I had to fulfill captain duties of summer training. During this time I was responsible for attendance, providing and completing workouts with a group of teammates. My leadership skills have definitely made me realize that I could be a good fit on a collegiate soccer team. Along with leadership capabilities, I am a willing to learn new skills, read the field well to make quick decisions, and I am passionate for the game of soccer.
