Personal Statement
I think that being able to play a sport in college will help me prepare for my life's work. Playing sports and academically challenging myself will give me the skills I need to grow as an individual. So far throughout my high school career, I started on our varsity soccer team, participated in swimming, ran cross-country, and played softball. I also was a member of the bowling team. Through hard work and a positive mentality, I lettered in three sports, with cross-country and soccer being in the same season. Although it was stressful and overwhelming, the challenge was worth it as our soccer team made the playoffs for the first time in 12 years! During my participation in these sports, I was able to maintain a GPA of 4.36 and am currently ranked first in my class.
My main reason for wanting to go to college is to further myself as a person, and gain more life experiences. I feel that if I am able to play soccer while doing my college studies, it will improve my ability to work with others and benefit my academic capability. Additionally, it will help me my ultimate goal of going to medical school and becoming a doctor.
Throughout my life, I have developed several characteristics that I could bring to any team. First and foremost I am a good teammate. It is important that every player's goal is to be the kind of player that your teammates want to line up with for every game. In order to overcome challenging obstacles, I believe it’s extremely important to have a hard-working mentality. Throughout my soccer career I have developed an ability to learn quickly. Because of this, I am extremely coachable, and I take constructive feedback very well. The last thing I would like to mention about myself is that my intentions are to have fun while playing. Although we are playing a sport that requires hard work, it should also be enjoyable.
Thank you for your time in reading my statement. I hope that we have the chance to talk further about my collegiate soccer career.
