Personal Statement
My Name is Madison Dodek, I am a 17-year-old junior at Kiski Area High School. I have been playing soccer since I was 8 years old. Over the years I have played many of the positions on the soccer field. On my cup team, I play primary all the defensive positions – center back, outside back and more recently holding midfielder. While soccer is a sport full of athletic skill, I also enjoy the chess-like moves of the game. I do get a rush when I shut down an attacking goal scorer or take another teams player off the ball. It is important to survey the field. While my team is attacking the opponent’s goal, I am surveying the field, identifying each teams open players and adjusting to either get the ball back in to my open player or set up to keep the opposing player from getting the ball. While I do get a rush shutting down an opposing attacker, I get the same rush when I find my open player and deliver the ball to them through a couple of opponents. Communication is important as well. I am always communicating with my teammates.
In high school, I play wherever I am needed. I normally play the midfielder positions for my high school soccer.
My goals in college are to be successful in the classroom as well as on the soccer field. I believe being a well-rounded person is the key to success anywhere – study hard, play hard, make good friends and do not be afraid to laugh and have fun.
