Hi, my name is Jenna Barouh and I'm currently a Senior at Aledo High School in Texas, graduating class of 2021. I recently moved to Aledo this past summer during COVID from Lake Oswego, Oregon, where I played Varsity for Lakeridge High School and Club soccer for Oregon Premier FC. I will be a starting Varsity Center back for Aledo High School and I have also recently begun playing with Sparta FC 02 Elite in Burleson TX.
I started playing club soccer at the age of 9 after watching my older brother on the field and thought “I can do this”. Even after coming off the field in tears half way through the first practice because I had no idea what the drills were that the other girls were doing, I mustered up the determination that I was going to do this and asked my mom if I could go back the following week.
Vision, determination, focus, caring, kind, coachable, and strong work ethic. These are just a few of the traits I practice every day on and off the field. I strive to be the best that I can be everyday as well being a supporting teammate and leader to my team.
My coaches have always supported my efforts on the field. They have stated I have a strong read of the field, I am strong mentally and physically, and I know when to dribble, pass, and shoot.
“Physically, she [Jenna] has always been one of the stronger and more aggressive players on our Club team. Her play also reflected multi-dimensional skill---as a quick wing forward or wide midfielder she was very capable of attacking the opposition and successful in getting off shots or crosses into dangerous areas; while as a disciplined yet fearless defender, she possessed all the patience necessary to delay and defend well, and additionally was able to play both accurate long diagonal balls deep into space or begin short combination play as she got forward into the offense.” - Nick Schwartz, Staff Head Coach, Oregon Premier FC, Lake Oswego Oregon
From an extracurricular standpoint, I have participated in various charitable contributions and drives throughout middle school and high school. My junior year of High School I participated in a tutoring program for local elementary school students struggling in different subjects, as well as participated in a support group for the Black Student Union, making sure that a safe learning environment was provided for students of color, specifically helping to organize a methodology for their voices to be heard on campus. Additionally, my club Soccer team adopted a yearly family to support at Christmas time and I also single handedly organized a High School support event prior to game kick off to honor my club teammate (who played for that HS) that was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's-Lymphoma and was unable to play that season.
Several high school injuries, an illness and COVID have all given me an opportunity to look at academics, athletics and life through a different lens and realize situations cannot always be controlled. However, positivity, encouragement and determination are characteristics that make up the team player and individual that I am and look forward to bringing this outlook to my next collegiate efforts.
I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how I can be an impactful participant in your 2021-22 program. Thank you, Jenna Barouh
