My name is Isabel Tanner, and I am a passionate and dedicated soccer player. I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old, and I have always loved the game. I am 5'4", fast, and creative on the ball. I am a team player who is always willing to work hard and improve.
I moved to Texas in 3rd grade and was placed on the lowest team possible. This was a challenge for me, as, I had played on the “best,” team in the state that I had moved from.
However, it also motivated me to work harder. I dedicated myself to improving my technical skills, physical performance, and tactical understanding of the game. I also worked on my mental toughness and my ability to handle adversity.
Through hard work and dedication, I have been able to achieve a lot in soccer. I have been a starter on my high school team since Freshman Year. As I mentioned, in club soccer, I’ve worked my way up through the ranks of rec, club, ECRL, to now play on an ECNL Team in what many consider the “toughest,” youth soccer conference in the United States (Texas Conference).
I am not the tallest player on the field, but what I lack in height, I try to make up for in speed and tactical understanding and anticipating of where the player/game is moving. I am a tough defender who rarely gets beat one-on-one. I’m a versatile player who coaches trust to play almost every position on the field (except keeper). My most natural positions are at both outside back and outside wing, serving as a playmaker who creates both penetrating and connecting passes to create scoring opportunities for my teammates.
I love this game. I love watching soccer highlights on weekend nights. I love smell of the grass and the feel of cleats when getting ready to train for soccer. I love the weight room and the mind games I play with myself to compete and improve. I love playing with my teammates and laughing during rondos and drills.
I play to win, with an understanding that winning requires the entire team to succeed, which often requires sacrifice of the individual for the greater good.
Most importantly, I won’t be outworked. You’ll never have to worry about me being on time, being out of shape, losing focus, or lacking will to improve. I look forward to playing college soccer and furthering myself as a student, person, and player.
