Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Samantha Jones and this is a little bit of information to know about me. I was born in Richmond, Virginia. My family moved to Frisco, Texas in 2012 where I began to play as a goalkeeper. I am 17 years old and I am a junior at Independence High School in Frisco,Texas. For my sophomore year, I was the starting goalkeeper for my varsity high school soccer team. During the season, I had the least amount of goals scored against in my district and got a total of 11 shutouts. Also, we were back-to-back District Championships and had another opportunity to go to playoffs this year but was cut short due to covid. After the season was cut short, I had earned District 9-5A second team all district and District 9-5A All-Academic Team. During my Freshman year at high school, I also played varsity and split time with another goalkeeper. I contributed to my team to earning a District Championship and playing in the playoffs. After my first high school season, I was awarded the District 9-5A All-Academic Team and the District 9-5A Honorable Mention.
I currently play on a club team at Solar Soccer Club. I play in the Frontier Development League for Solar 03 FDL Grado. I am the only keeper on my team and I use every game and practice to get myself better. I want to continue playing soccer in college where I can work on a career and enjoy playing the game I love.
Along with playing soccer, I also value my education. I am a straight A student with a 3.98 GPA and a 5.1 weighted GPA due to the Pre-AP classes that I take. I am also an art student who participates in the scholastic art event called VASE. I have participated in VASE for 2 years and both times I received the highest score of a 4 that someone could obtain for their art piece. This year on top of receiving the highest score, my piece was also chosen to go to State and win a Gold Seal. I am going to continue advancing my art skills throughout high school and when I get to college I would like to study Sports Management or Kinesiology throughout my college years.
For the past few months, I have been using my free time in between soccer and art to volunteer assistant coach kids with Solar Soccer Club. I have over 100 hours now and I plan on continuing to help coach them till I go to college for my next experience in life. I want to use this experience to one day possibly get a team of my own to coach and help each player grow and get better as a player in soccer.
