I have been playing soccer for as long as I can remember. I have fallen in love with the game over the years, and it has taught me many things. I have been the captain of my club team for the past four years, and I am the captain of my high school team this year. Soccer has had the biggest impact on my life, and it has made me the person I am today. In my junior year of high school, I tore every ligament in my knee and I had a full knee reconstruction surgery; the projected recovery time was a year and a half, meaning I was out for the rest of the season. Over this time, I learned multiple different lessons about myself, soccer, and school. I learned that I was stronger than I thought I was, I learned the true purpose of soccer and some new strategy to the game, and I learned that school isn't as hard as it seemed. I rehabbed as hard as I could and managed to recover and be back on the field in 8 months, which was extremely fast. This was one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I am glad it happened because this is what shaped me into the person I am now, and I wouldn't have been able to find the good things in life that aren't related to soccer.
Now I know what I am capable of and I will never stop pushing to be a better person, player, and student. I will be graduating with every major endorsement this year from Gateway College Preparatory School, and I have already planned what I want to major in. This injury gave me the time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life after college. I am part of many clubs at my school, and I love to help with the community, especially children. I have learned how to be a leader and how to set an example for the people around me to follow. I would be an amazing asset to any team who is willing to have me because I know the game better than most, understand it at a different level, lead by example, and I am an utilitarian meaning I can play any position on the field with ease. Especially since my recovery, I play outside my natural position all the time, and I am still continuing to set records at my school and for my club.
