I fell in love with soccer 9 years ago and it has been my greatest passion ever since. I started playing because my friends were. Over the years they’ve all stopped but, even though I knew our schedules would be different and friendships change by continuing to play soccer I knew it was something I couldn’t walk away from. I remember the first game I was put in goal as keeper (now 7 years ago) I was so nervous and excited at the same time – I never looked back! I thrive on being able to guide my team throughout the game. I have the confidence and respect of my team that they listen to me on the field when I’m telling them where to mark up.
I have learned from soccer how to work as a team and that is something that helps me not only on the field but, in school, family, and friendships. By playing soccer I’ve learned hard and valuable lessons on and off the field. One example is when I broke my finger trying to make a save. I learned patients while waiting to heal, how to train differently, and learn more game strategies.
Another lesson is when I didn’t make the high school soccer team as a freshman. Since I attend a large high school there is a lot of competition. Not making the team was one of the hardest things to go through – it pushed me to work harder than ever to achieve my goal of playing for my high school. I knew I had to train to stand out the next year.
I started training with a personal trainer to work on my vertical jump, agility, and to get stronger. I spent more time with a keeper specific trainer as well. I’m proud of my hard work, dedication, and bravery to try out again and I made my high school team the following year aa the starter for the JV team.
My goal now is to continue to support my teams (both high school & club) to be the very best that we can be together! I am driven by my teammates and this is something that I hope to continue into my college years.
