Personal Statement
My name is Amanda Wigboldy and I will graduate in 2018. I have been playing competitive soccer for 10+ years. I was born and raised in Chicago, where I played for Lyons Township Soccer Club on their top level Select and Showcase teams. My family moved to Lynchburg, Virginia in 2014 and I am currently playing for the Richmond United ECNL U16G team. Last year as a freshman at EC Glass High School I was a starting attacking midfielder on the varsity team and made first team all District as well as first team all Conference.
My goal is to play is to play college soccer at the highest competitive level possible. I am currently 5' 10" and 135 lbs and feel that I can physically compete with anyone. Some of my strengths that I can bring to your program are my skill, size and dedication. I believe that I have very good vision with and without the ball and can see plays building up beforehand. I have always been a strong, technical player and pride myself in my ability to softly receive, quickly and accurately pass as well as head the ball. I am mentally tough and have a strong work ethic. I continually work on my soccer skills and keep myself in game shape in my free time. I also have two cousins who have competed at the Division 1 level in soccer and tennis, and from their shared experience, I understand what it takes to be an athlete at this level.
As for my choice in college, I am looking for not only a strong athletic program, but a school that is very strong academically. I have always been an A student, and am currently taking honors classes while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. My parents have taught me the importance of obtaining a strong college education as the foundation for my future, so the academic quality of the school will definitely be a priority in my decision. I am currently undecided on what my major will be, but am leading toward a career in medicine.
